December 2, 2007 Dear friends in life and in ministry . . . Sunday marks the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of a new liturgical year. My column this weekend explains the scriptural cycles used by Roman Catholics and many of the mainline Christian denominations. If it sounds a little too heady for me to have personally written, you are indeed intuitive. In truth, much of the information comes directly from the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. www.usccb.org In addition to my column, I've put together a 4 page insert that includes information on Bishop Clark's invitation to our diocese to enter into a multi-year spiritual renewal. Its a beautiful letter and a challenge to us all to get top know the Lord. Page two of the insert includes a poem by Corrie Ten Boom and a cute Product Recall notice from God. Locals may be interested in our Finance Committee Report and many will enjoy parishioner Amy Badeau's reflections on her trip with our young people to the National Catholic Youth Convention. Over the years, God has blessed me with many wonderful opportunites to minister. As a Roman Catholic permanent deacon of the Diocese of Rochester, New York, (ordained 1982), I have served in a wide variety of ministries. Whether I am ministering to my parish, hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, travel or retreat groups (e.g. Cursillo, Walk to Emmaus, Koiniania, Pre Cana, Youth) - music has played an important role in opening doors and hearts.
