December 23 & 25, 2007
Dear friends in life and in ministry . . .
I'm writing this greeting on Christmas Eve morning. The past few days have been long and filled with activity. On Friday, following a funeral service, our parish staff gathered for a Christmas luncheon. Later, I visited an inmate in the Steuben Jail. On Saturday morning, our Rotary Club invited Santa to have breakfast with area children. Among those attending was my grandson Jack. The jolly elf actually sat on the floor and visited with him. Love this grandpa stuff.
Yesterday, following Mass, there was choir practice and pageant practice, and the transition from Advent to Christmas decorations. All this ended about 5:00 p.m. It was then that exhaustion set in.
So today, at Pat's suggestion, I'm being good to myself. As usual this involves sitting in my extra large recliner with laptop open, preparing tonight's Children's homily and getting out this letter to friends.
Our Christmas this year will be a multi-day event. Pat and I will be joined by my friend Kenneth Anderson to sing at the Christmas Day Mass at 10 a.m. Our son Chris, and perhaps Annie, Jason and Jack will visit on Christmas afternoon. Our youngest daughter Monica and her friend Nate will arrive sometime on December 26th and we'll have our Christmas fondue and visit Mount Savior Monastery for Night Prayer (how do these strange family traditions begin?) on December 27th.
Again this year, this email will have to also serve as your Christmas Card.
Although its not glitzy, inspirational, or as personal a greeting as I'd like to send, please know that you're very significant to my life and faith journey and I thank God for your presence in my life. May God's blessing be abundantly present to you this Christmas and throughout 2008.
