| Dear friends in life and in ministry, I'm a few days late in getting out this weekly update do to another very full weekend. Saturday night following the 4 p.m. Eucharist, Pat and I traveled about 45 miles to Chemung NY where we enjoyed dinner and spent the night with our friends George and Jana Howell.
On Sunday morning, I'd been invited to preach at my former parish church, St. James in Waverly and baptize newborn Gabriella Miller, daughter of Sam and Rebecca Miller. It was so good to see many of the people I'd grown to know and love during my two years as pastoral administrator of St. James and St. Pius X, Van Etten. Next Saturday, I hope to see many from the Van Etten Church as I speak at a Breakfast Retreat for the men of Blessed Trinity Parish - which now includes both St. James and St. Pius. The breakfast will be held at St. Pius. My topic is "Things My Father Never Told Me".
More gorgeous weather. Hope you have the time and opportunity to enjoy it.
Blessings to all . . .
October 2, 2005
It has been a very full and inspiring week. Last Sunday’s Family Mass and Parish Picnic was very well attended. Moving the 9:00 a.m. Mass to Noon no doubt inconvenienced some, but all who joined us were in for a special treat. Our Faith Formation children led us in procession, scripture reading and prayer and even helped illustrate my homily on the Corporal Works of Mercy. I’m told that the Picnic following the Mass was among the best attended ever. Special thanks go to our Catechists and children, our choir, Fr. Erb, and the many folks who adjusted their Sunday to celebrate that We Are Family!
The Family Mass followed by about 24 hours Helen Baird’s Funeral Mass. It never seems to fail that folks from outside our parish community are deeply touched by the special way we celebrate the funerals of our parishioners and their loved ones. From the detail that goes into the planning of these celebrations, to the grace-filled ministries of our Resurrection Assembly, to the outstanding music of our cantor, organist and (in this case) Choir, our Funeral Masses are exceptional celebrations. Add to this the wonderful hospitality imparted by our Bereavement Luncheon volunteers and its plain to see how prayerfully and faithfully we celebrate our faith in the dignity of each person and God’s promise of Eternal Life.
Mary Carol Wall Accepts FF Position
I am please to announce that our Youth Minister Mary Carol Wall has accepted my offer to expand her ministry to include administering our Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation programs. Mary Carol you’ll recall served in this capacity on a temporary basis from 2003—2004. Now it is my prayer that she will continue to share her strong faith and exceptional enthusiasm for young people and with our catechist and children for years to come.

This Sunday, I’ve accepted and invitation to deacon the 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. James in Waverly where I served as Pastoral Administrator before coming to Bath. St. James Church is now part of the newly formed Blessed Trinity Parish in Tioga County, NY. At this Mass I’ll preach, baptize Gabriella Miller whose parents I married shortly after leaving St. James. Next Saturday morning, I’ll visit another former parish, St. Pius X in Van Etten where I’ll speak at a Men’s Breakfast Retreat.
Have a good week. Serve one another well.
